NW Goldberg Cares
We worked with NW Goldberg Cares (NWGC), a nonprofit community development organization, over the course of two years to accelerate growth, expand funding partnerships, acquire properties, and advance neighborhood planning efforts.
2019
Our engagement with NWGC kicked off in 2019, when we offered guidance to establish the organization’s first Board of Directors. We consulted with the three-member team on board development strategy and composition, and we also began preparing NWGC to qualify for federal grants.
2020
After advising on strategy, we were asked to join NWGC’s Board of Directors. We coordinated board meetings, led decision-making related to staff compensation, and performed regular reviews of grants before submission. Ultimately, we helped transition the all-volunteer team to contract-employees, with a long-term strategy to create full-time positions in alignment with fund development.

2021
By 2021, our organizational development services helped secure over $200,000 in grants from at least three new funding partners. We also assisted on the Reimagining Ferry Park Planning Study led by Rosetti. Following this planning study, CityShares partnered with NW Goldberg Cares to implement a series of “plan-to-action” meetings that ensured resident voices continued to inform plans for implementation.
